Hawaiian Cooking Class with Chef Linda

Amy and Susan in Hawaii

Last year you might remember my son Jacob and I took a Hawaiian cooking class from Chef Linda of Hawaiian Style Cooking Classes and learned how to make Hawaiian favorites. A great way to enhance your trip when you travel is to take a cooking class! You can read about that class on my Super Easy Shoyu Poke Bowl post. Well this time I brought my sister-in-law Susan! She had as much fun as I did! We did Chef Linda’s Asian Fusion/Pacific Rim class.

We learned how to make homemade gyozas (Japanese dumplings), Crispy Asian Brussels Sprouts, Shoyu Braised Short Ribs and Coconut Butter Mochi. It was a fabulous evening along with 9 other students.

Here is Susan getting ready for the class. Chef Linda has it all laid out for everyone. She has a fabulous commercial kitchen in her house.

Amy folding Gyozas on a board

Here I am learning how to roll homemade gyozas. They are fun to make! Chef Linda gives you the recipes as well. These gyozas were a mixture of ground pork, garlic, green onions, and cabbage. They are similar to making my egg rolls or yakimandu but the folding technique is very different.

Homemade gyozas frying in the pan. First you lightly fry them and then you steam them.

Homemade Gyoza on a plate

Homemade gyozas! Lightly fried on one side and soft on the other side. Perfect combination of fried and steamed.

Crispy Asian Brussel Sprouts on a plate

These are the Crispy Asian Brussels Sprouts. They actually were my favorite dish of all. And super easy to make! I’ll be putting a lighter version on my blog soon! You can see the coconut butter mochi in the background. So yummy!

Shoyu Braised Short Ribs in a bowl

This is the Shoyu Braised Short Ribs with daikon, carrots and mushrooms. Chef Linda showed us how to do it in the Instant Pot. I think she likes the Instant Pot as much as I do!

Here I am with Chef Linda. She’s so much fun and has so many great stories! I could listen to her for hours!

In case you didn’t know, she’s also one of the owners of Teddy’s Bigger Burgers which are all over Hawaii, the US, Japan and the Philippines.

Next time you’re in Oahu, sign up for one of her Hawaiian cooking classes. You won’t be disappointed. I promise!! I’ll be doing another class with her soon – her Korean cooking class with my dad. He has no idea what’s in store for him! I can’t wait!
